Letter from the Founder
Dear Prospective Parent,
Thank you so much for your interest in SOAR. Allow me to share why we created the program and what we strive to accomplish through it.
Berean Christian School is a K-12 private Christian school of approximately 350 students, located in Knoxville, Tennessee. Our SOAR program is an educational solution for students with dyslexia. Before we ever taught a class, four years of research, planning and preparation went into the idea of SOAR. On the first day of the program, we were excited to watch students approach the experience with the first glimmer of hope and a little uncertainty. But soon they began to see a horizon beyond daily frustration.
The faculty of SOAR consists of Kristie Hees, the lead elementary classroom teacher and our reading and language specialist. Nate McKeehan is an elementary teacher and our math specialist. Liz Palmer and Emily Fiveash oversee the learning centers on the lower and upper campus, respectively. Jon Farra is the program administrator. Dr. Robert A. Core, Ph.D., is the program founder (also science consultant), with 43 years of classroom and administrative experience. And, Dr. Elizabeth Cox consults with the teachers and administration on a regular basis.
Put simply, SOAR is the only program of its kind in East Tennessee. We believe that every child deserves the same opportunity to learn and thrive. Let us partner with you as you seek the best education for your child.
Please explore our website, and don’t hesitate to contact us with questions. We would love to meet you in person and show you around our campus.
With warmest regards,
Dr. Robert A. Core, Ph.D.
