Prospective Parents

Welcome to the official website of Knoxville’s Berean Christian School, a co-ed Christian day school serving students in grades K-12. When it comes to selecting a private school, we believe there is a “just right” fit for every family and every child. We’re excited that you are considering Berean for your child’s education.

Berean Christian School is a caring team of parents and teachers who believes it is our job to raise up and serve Christian men and women. Our current enrollment is 360+ students who represent more than 85 churches in the greater Knoxville area. Students come to Berean from across Knox County, as well as several nearby areas.

Our school was founded in 1980 as a ministry of Berean Bible Church, a non-denominational church in Knoxville. Berean was established to offer families, parents and students an alternative to the humanistic philosophies of public schools. Berean Christian School is based on the foundation of God’s revealed Word, the Bible, and we teach students that God is the source of absolute truth and wisdom.

Under the leadership of Headmaster George Waller and other members of our administrative staff, we are committed to excellence through a Christ-centered, biblically integrated education. We feel this gives students the knowledge and abilities to be leaders, and impact their world for Christ.

God has given parents the ultimate responsibility for educating their children. We also believe some of that responsibility has been given to Berean, since it functions as an extension of the home. We believe it can be our role to facilitate Christian education, without overstepping or taking the place of the primary authority of the home.

Our school can best fulfill its mission when educators, coaches, and staff are able to work cooperatively with godly parents to give students a consistently God-centered environment. We welcome and encourage parents to get involved in the learning process, as volunteers in and out of the classroom.

The strongest asset at Berean is our staff of leaders and educators. All faculty hold ACSI or Tennessee certification and most average 10 years of teaching experience in the classroom. Many of our faculty have advanced degrees and all participate in continuing education opportunities.

In addition to educator excellence, we have high expectations for our students with regard to academics, using curricula from A Beka, Saxon, Bob Jones, and ACSI. Students at Berean learn in an intimate classroom setting where the average student-to-teacher ratio is 19:1.

We know that parents want their children to reach their maximum academic potential and we take this very seriously. Berean students are challenged in and out of the classroom through a variety of experiences. Additionally, each year, students in grades K-8 take the Terra Nova 3, a nationally-normed test which measures their progress and helps us address any issues that might be present. Our students continually test above the national average. Tutoring and additional assistance is available whenever necessary.

Academics are the main focus of our school, but we understand that students need to be fully rounded which is why we offer a wide variety of extracurricular activities (Art, Music, PE, and Library) as well as athletic programs. We also allow students the opportunity for educational field trips and service projects.

Berean students consistently receive scholarships to attend their first choice colleges and universities. We also provide students with guidance to explore future career goals, vocational aspirations and spiritual callings.
