As a ministry of Berean Bible Church, our school strives to set standards that promote excellence in academics, conduct and appearance. We understand there are many factors that contribute to a school’s atmosphere, but one of these is a school uniform. At Berean, we want our school to be about the work of education while ministering to the heart of the student.
This is why we have put into place a dress code policy that is biblically rooted and scripturally based. It is our goal to promote Jesus Christ in all areas of education and that is why we encourage an environment that promotes modesty, responsibility, alertness, and excellence.
Moderation, compassion and graciousness are important principles that are central to our uniform policy and we have adopted a uniform that we feel is practical and safe for students as well as affordable to parents.
Teaching children to conform to a standard of dress helps establish an atmosphere of order and respect for each other and for authority while minimizing distractions and establishes habits conducive to future success in life.
A main goal of our having a uniform policy is to avoid opportunities for using extreme fashions and trends as a way to draw negative personal attention or make other forms of offensive public statements. We feel this can cause a distraction to the learning process. We want our uniform policy to help students develop attitudes of respect for themselves and consideration to those around them.
Some of the scriptures on which we have based our uniform dress code policy are:
- 1 Timothy 2:9 (in which the Bible tells women to dress modestly)
- Deuteronomy 22:5 (in which we are given the principle of distinction in clothing for men and women)
- Romans 14:21 (in which the Bible admonishes us to not to allow our behavior to cause others to sin)
- 1 Corinthians 10:31 (in which the Bible encourages us to glorify God in all things
