Talking Golf with Cooper Hayes

On Monday, September 17, freshman Cooper Hayes competed as part of Carter High School’s golf team in the TSSAA District 1 Large School Division District Championship. The event took place at The Country Club of Morristown. Twelve schools competed, including South Doyle, Jefferson County, Greene County, Grainger, Sevier County, Morristown West, and Morristown East.

Since Berean does not have a golf team, our students have a chance to partner with other schools in Knoxville, which is what Cooper Hayes and another freshman, Carson Fisher, have done.

Carter won 1st place team, and our very own Cooper Hayes won 1st place individual, shooting 3 under par for a personal best score of 69. Next he and the Carter team move on to Regionals, held again at The Country Club of Morristown, on Monday, September 25.

We interviewed Cooper about the District game and his hopes for Regionals.

Q: What are your thoughts on Carter making it to states?

Cooper Hayes: Carter’s never won regionals before or qualified for state as a team in recent years. This is probably our best chance.

Q: How do you feel about your team’s chances at Regionals next week?

CH: I feel pretty confident that if we put together another solid round next week and shave off a few strokes, we’ll be set.

Q: What are your personal goals for Regionals and, hopefully, beyond?

CH: Personally, I’m hoping to repeat exactly what I did in Districts at Regionals.

We wish you the best of luck, Cooper! Congrats on an outstanding season!

This morning I sit at my desk writing my last headmaster reflection. What does one say to a community of friends who have been his focus for 14 years? What
